Polite English: 8 ways to say THANK YOU

32

Hi, my name is Rebecca and in today's lesson I'm going to teach you how to express your

gratitude to someone for something that they may have done for you, ok?

And in giving you this lesson, I'd also like to express my gratitude to a friend of mine

named Nissim and so Nissim, this lesson is for you, alright?

So how do we show our appreciation to someone?

Well, in an informal situation, we can simply say, "thanks", right, "thanks".

Or if somebody helped you a lot in an informal situation, we can say, "thanks a lot", "thanks

a lot", right, ok.

Now we're getting a little bit more formal, you'll see that we're starting at the most

informal and we're going to the most formal, alright?

Next one, "thank you very much" or "thank you so much" or a little more polite, a little

more formal, "thank you kindly", right.

Then after that we have a few other sentences which you'll see are a little bit different

but still express the same feeling, the same emotion.

"I can't thank you enough", right, "I can't thank you enough", which means really, "thanks

very, very much" or "I don't know how to thank you", right, "I don't know how to thank you".

Last of all, you might want to say what you're thanking somebody for.

So for example, "thank you for all your help", "thank you for your cooperation on this project",

if you're in a business situation, right.

Or you could say, as I'm saying to my friend, you see, "thank you for your encouragement",

"thank you for your inspiration", "thank you for your friendship", right.

You can see that using this magical word, "thank you", expresses a lot of deep emotion.
